I was listening to Gordon Brown recently and the last two speeches he’s given, one to the citizens thing and the other a press type conference and I wish he’d had talked that way all the way through the election campaign. They were energised and moving, it reminded me why so many of us voted Labour in 1997.
Yesterday he listed many of the achievements of the Labour government and it is mostly good stuff.
I’m not pretending the Labour government has been fecking awesome or anything, yes in some respects they have lost their way (erosion of our civil liberties to name one important issue I have with Labour) but in comparison to the last Conservative government there’s no comparison, today’s Labour are 100x better. From what the current Tories have said on the national minimum wage and letting it “wither on the vine” by not increasing it like Labour has (Labour are talking about a living wage now) it tells us they are the same old Tories looking to turn Britain back to sweatshop Britain!
Has anyone noticed practically ZERO campaigning on the NHS beyond the Conservatives saying they won’t cut the front line services but will magically save money on efficiency savings? When the Tories lost power in 1997 it was all about the NHS because it was so run down by the Conservatives it was a national disgrace!
The NHS is an enormous institution and history tells us politicians do not run business particularly well (look at how our now privatised and far more efficient industries used to be run!). It’s taken massive investment into the NHS to get it where it is today and we all know money is wasted, BUT in comparison Labour cares about the NHS and the Tories don’t give a flying rats ass about this great British institution because they can afford to go private!
If you care about the NHS you will not vote Tory tomorrow!
I’ll be voting Labour because Labour at least have their heart in the right place and unlike the Tories heart it’s not two sizes too small.
