Comment on UKIP Policies : Royal Navy by Gabriele.

Apart from the fact that this is sadly going to remain a dream anyway, there still a few things which are very evidently wrong and that is worth pointing out:

6 RFA landing ships, but with no Ro/Ro capability. Why, in the name of all that is holy??? Helicopters aren’t magical. They can’t bring ashore the heavy vehicles essential for the troops.
6 Bay class LSD, eventually fitted with an hangar for a couple of helicopters, are a far better element to have.
It is worth remembering that initially, 6 and then 5 Bays had to be built, in fact.

3 RFA Tankers. Seriously??? A fleet twice as big as the current one, with half the number of logistic vessels? Someone there does not understand the value of logistic support and does not appreciate how useless combat elements quickly become if they are not supported and given fuel and ammunition and food and all the other supplies.

And 25 minesweepers? No, thanks, but that’s overkill. If there is something European countries can provide in spades within NATO is modern, efficient minesweepers and good experience in MCM. Even the smaller countries can bring to the table very good crews and modern minesweepers.

Also, the third carrier.
Awesome as it would be, it realistically is overkill.
Better to spend that money in other ways. For example, fitting folding rotors to the Chinook helicopters and give them some protection from corrosion in sea environment to make it easier to embark them for amphibious operations, since they are invaluable heavy lifters.
