At the up coming UK general election there’s a realistic possibility of a hung parliament. All serious polls point to a Conservative election win, but with UKIP’s strong showing in the 2009 EU elections and the Tories appearing to be turning their back on Euroscepticism, could Eurosceptic UKIP split the Conservative vote (Eurosceptic Conservative MPs […]

Labour and Liberal democrats are both rubbish, the fact that I was reading the paper the other day and Clegg and his ‘team’ had basically stolen Cameron’s ideas kind of shows that the LibDems fear the Conservative party!
Vote for conservatives!!! :)
‘the fact that I was reading the paper the other day and Clegg and his ‘team’ had basically stolen Cameron’s ideas kind of shows that the LibDems fear the Conservative party!’

If you believe what you read in the newspapers then non of the parties have any “original” ideas, most of them are tried and failed policies of the past or ones that have not been thought through properly as to how they are going to affect people in real life rather than those with money or living in London.
If only the people of the UK could pick and choose the selection of policies from each party and be able to vote on them ourselves rather than voting in someone that is supposed to represent us then find they then vote the way their party whip tells them to rather than what their constituants want from them.
For those that cannot remember back in the early eighties, I was one of those left university and looking for a job, working part time 3 nights a week in a local pub. I was getting a reduced unemployment benefit to cover the days I did not work, this was cut to nothing as they changed to rules to say 3 nights a week was now a full working week.
People complain about mortgage interest rates but mid to end of the eighties the interest rate on my first mortgage went up and up to over 12% because of the financial problems of the country.

I am french and been leaving in the UK for 12 years.
I won’t vote in England as it is not my country.
But I can’t help to compare and I can’t believe that Labour did so much wrong and still people are hesitating and not realising what they’ve lost already and especially one of the most important one which is your “Freedom!”. So many laws passed (under your nose) without anyone realising the full extend of it. DNA Database / Phone taping/ internet / CCTV / Anti-Terrorist laws (which are p.o.i.n.t.l.e.s.s) many not listed and more coming… you might have nothing to fear today but you NOW cannot hide from any future evil gourvernment that might come into power (thank you to your Labour “Lord and Order”).
And another thing how can a Prime Minister decide to stay in power without the willing of his people!!! Please, don’t tell me is that because you are voting for a gouvernment instead of a PM! :-)
English (worker) pay pretty much the same tax as the french but what have you got to show for? NHS? Public Transport? (rip off and not “Public” no more), Retirment allowance?, job seekers allowance? Maternity leave? Paternity leave lol? I can go on and on… Where is YOUR MONEY GOING? sorry I know this is all negatif and France is FARE from perfect (just the french alone!) but these are facts.
one word… R.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N lol

Absolutely agree with everything expressed above!!!
I am just sorry that many of my fellow countrymen are not so willing to read behind the lines/ remove their Labour coloured blinkers!
It is a sorry affair when someone not originally from this country (no offence intended) takes the time to stop and look think about the mess that is our ruling government and its hilarious policies! And is an even greater shame that you, Chris, are not going to vote. A few more citizens with the same attitude as you may go a rather long way!
Thankyou for your interesting opinion :)

Tories have posters all over the country stating that the Labour government has increased the gap between the rich and the poor. In the 80’s my father had an accident at work that left him in a wheelchair. At the time my mother was a housewife looking after 4 children under 10. Neither had any qualifications – they were unemployable. Tories gave our family a pittance each week to survive on. When labour were voted in, they supported my mother through a social work degree by giving her a student loan despite the fact she was a mature student with no previous qualifications. Three motnhs after she graduated, she got a job with the local council, and has been there ever since, paying back her debt. Labour have very good to our family.

I think all the leaders and all the parties have good ideas and how awesome it would be to combine all the parties and have them working togeather to put the great back in great britain.
I cant see why a `hung parliament’ would be so terrible, why couldnt they all put their heads together, and make Britain GREAT again, so ….
why not !!!!
The only part I disagree with is the make Britain Great again.
Britain is already Great Britain, now we should be aiming for Awesome Britain.
I don’t understand why British people put their own country down and yet when asked barely any can list a better place to live!
I challenge anyone to name 3 better places to live than Britain and why they are better?
Not just a place is better because of one specific issue, but better overall. For example I think the way young people value education in some poor countries like India and Africa far more than our young people value education is inspiring, but I wouldn’t want to live there!

Hung being the primmer we would be hung by the neck, we’ve only had 1 hung parliment since the war, and look what happened imf, economic crisis. However this time the biggy is there is a global economic crisis back then it was only our national crisis.
British politics is tribal, the parties have very real differences on how to achieve the same goal, and in that gulf of philosophy the time it will take to agree a concensus would be enough time for the country to economic hell in a hand bag?
