Comment on Reasons to Vote British National Party by David.

Capitalising an entire comment, it’s generally not done on the Internet whether it’s comments, Usenet, Facebook, email… it’s considered shouting and rude. I have mentioned this before to the odd commenter, but I don’t want to be pointing out this sort of thing over and over again as it damages debate. After reading Crispin’s homophobic/racist response I checked all his comments and they all tend to be capitalised, hence the mention.

I’ll add I tend to ignore fully capitalised comments, they are almost always a waste of time reading. If a commenter doesn’t even have the intelligence to realise capitalising an entire comment is ignorant, they probably haven’t got a decent argument to make.

And just to make things clear, I’m not going to censor someone for capitalising, they do that to themselves, many won’t bother reading capitalised comments.

I don’t see how a well received three word comment “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH” that could mean anything is vindication of Cripin’s debating style?

I did spot the gaybour comment and considered bringing it up (very childish), but stopped reading the comment at that point because it was capitalised, see above. Decided to spend my time debating with those with enough respect not to capitalise every word (it’s bloody hard to read).

I’m not concerned at anyone attacking the student, he’s put his opinions online and like anyone else has to take any flak thrown his way. Based on the videos of his I’ve watched I’m sure he’s more than capable of defending himself in a debate.

My problem with Crispin’s comments are his obvious homophobia and racism, that’s it.

If he’d have called the student an idiot who’s talking out his ass, I’d have disagreed with him (if I had the time to), but I have no issue with that sort of opinion, I have a similar opinion for some commenter’s posting here, but try not to lower myself into slinging insults, it’s unproductive.

I was also a science student (what did you study? I studied genetics) and I’m not homosexual either and have to admit I feel a little uncomfortable with homosexuality, but I don’t see the point in homophobia?

I recall something funny a male mature student said to me when I was at Reading University at an OU summer school Maths course:

“I like homosexuals, means there’s more women for me” :-)

As a 19 year old heterosexual male, it made a lot of sense to me back then, it also made sense as we were studying Maths.

Wisdom does come with age, but sometimes the young have more wisdom than the old.

I agree the education system has been dumbed down, but you can not assume as Crispin is suggesting this student is therefore dumb. Based on his videos he clearly is not dumb.

I looked at the comments you refer to as being puerile, but I don’t see a problem? I haven’t read every comment (1,800 of them so far!!!), but I don’t recall reading another homophobic comment.

Excellent point you made with “you don’t win arguments by questioning the motives of your antagonist”, very well put.

Based on Crispin’s later comments, it’s becoming clear he’s trying to be confrontational for the sake of it. All I can say is it damages the BNP’s cause and supports the anti BNP arguments, so feel free to carry on mate.
