According to the Labour Party website the Labour Party have achieved the following in their time in power: Why Labour? Labour has a proud record on animal welfare. Over the past ten years, we have introduced laws which banned cruel and unethical practices such as drift net fishing and fur farming, set minimum standards for […]

Although I care about animal welfare since I see how we treat animals as a glimpse into how caring our society is, animal welfare is not top of my list for voting for a political party during the 2010 general election.
That being said I agree with 90%+ of what Labour has achieved since it came into power, hunting down a fox with a packs of dogs is barbaric, there are far more humane ways to deal with foxes that are killing farm animals IF that is the reason for hunting them.

Hunting Down a Fox with a Packs of Dogs is Barbaric
i think that is quit right David
Strange, isn’t it David, all our bleeding heart tree huggers go on about the “cruelty” & “barbarism” of foxhunting but not ONE peep out of them about the cruelty & barbarism of halal butchery, where the animal isn’t stunned prior to killing but left to bleed to death in agony, which can take several minutes!
I wonder why? Is it because they are scared of their OWN throats being cut by some muslim fanatic for daring to oppose one of their religious demands?

i think we still need to focus on owners of pets. i am a dog and cat owner. i was so unaware about how many people are so unaware about how to treat their animals until i became one. i am not necesarily talking about underfeeding and beating, but also the pooing in the streets, lack of cleaning up and the lack of obedience in general. if people are going to own animals, they should be liscenced and have to take basic obedience training(especially with dogs). i see so many people being dragged arounf, extreme amounts of fouling and a general understanding about how they should behave. its not on.
PS: why do we not have adverts about dog fouling and the dangers. i have reported one case where this family let their dog foul where their own children play…come on

What are Labour planning for much needed Animal Welfare over the next 10 years?
i think that people should take a lot more care with there animals because if people looked after there animals such as dogs there wouldn’t be as much mess around as there is now a lot of people pick up the mess but some people just leave it and did you know it is just horrible if you step in it
p.s please look after your animals and clean up after them so not as many people will step in there mess

I have been reading up the information outlined on this website, because I need to know what party will help protect our animals, as far as possible. I now realise just how unimportant these issues are to the conservatives, and very many voters. It is always been uppermost in my mind that fox hunting, hare coursing, stag hunting and the rest should have a total ban…full stop, no half measures. Surely the conservatives can clearly see that to question this issue in favour of the unsavory pleasure of the privileged and bloodthirsty few will exclude many caring voters away from their party.
