Only men are allowed into mosques? Since when???? I understand that Islamic men and women worship God separately, and that the children go with the women. That is the same in Judaism.
I personally think that men and women should be treated equally in society. They’re not in our society are they? Women are treated as second class citizens because employers just expect them to leave and have children. They are paid less and offered less career advancement. You can expect your career to come to a grinding halt once you have kids.
In Muslim and Jewish society it seems that women are not considered equal, that they have to cover their heads etc. But that is an extreme example. It’s an example highlighted by the media. It is NOT necessarily the norm! None of the Jewish people in my family have shaved their heads or wear a wig or are expected to do so. Nor have I ever met any Jews that do this. None of the Jewish children that my friend teaches has a mother who shaves her head or wears a wig. She does work with a woman who wears a head scarf, but she has chosen to do this, it was not something that her husband expected her to do. Similarly, I have never taught a Muslim child whose mother wears one of the head coverings that covers her face.
I think you should spend more time getting to know the people in your community before you criticise them. Who are you to tell other people how to live their lives? If you’re Welsh, and someone tells you that in no circumstances you would be allowed to wear a Welsh rugby shirt, would that stop you? No way! In fact, you’d wear it more often! Your attitude would be “I can wear what I like and whose business is it what I wear?”. I believe that this is why more Muslim ladies are wearing those face-covering headdresses – it’s a backlash caused by the British media.
If you think that the Islamic and Jewish religions are not equal and fair religions, you don’t have to become a Muslim or Jew – but you’ve no right to stop other people doing so.
