Honest answer? I don’t know, my close Muslim Jordanian friend says “because they are stupid”!
I suspect it’s more of a means of control. The Royal Family (Sunni) are committed to reform but the Clerics hold the power of the people (Shia).
I don’t agree with extreme Islam at all (such as practised in Saudi); I just happen to have an understanding of what it is meant to be and practised by most moderates (whilst living in a Muslim culture).
I’ve seen the posts of Britishbred regarding the marriage laws and again it’s something I strongly abhorr. I can’t disagree with what was posted and I suspect self-respecting Muslims couldn’t either.
My posts started really in response to Christmas and it’s perceived offense against Muslims – which I disagree with, purely from a historical point of view of the origins of Islam and the recognition of Jesus.
I was fairly ignorant about Islam when we first relocated here so have taken an interest in what it was. I had no idea at first that Jesus was a part or Moses, Abraham, Noah, etc. so was completely astonished at how closely they are connected.
