Lincolnshire where we live has a lot of immigrants, especially Polish.
Since moving to our latest home (3 years ago) I’ve had some dental treatment and have seen:
One black dentist (not sure where from) : a very good dentist.
One Spanish dentist : he was an absolute fecking idiot, X-ray of the wrong teeth!
One Polish dentist : nice bloke, quite a good dentist.
One Portuguese dentist : really good dentist.
All the above on the NHS BTW.
When we lived in Grimsby we couldn’t find an NHS dental practice and saw two private dentists, same practice, one English one Scottish.
First one (Scottish) was so bad one of our kids lost his two front teeth, he was apparently having a nervous breakdown while treating patients, I had a filing so high I could barely eat!
Second one picked up the pieces from the first, not a great dentist either and we had to pay for those two dentists!
I’m more interested in quality of worker than I am where they come from. People are people, if they come to the UK with skills in short supply and don’t have plans to blow up the houses of parliament (OK bad example, might let that one go if it was blown up :-)) I have no major issues with them.
Yes, I have concerns about our way of life being changed, but I also see those who entered the UK 30, 40+ years ago are no less British than I am. As long as we don’t see 30 million immigrants entering the UK over a short period of time (that would be a problem) I see them adapting more to our way of life than the other way around.
All cultures have both good and bad aspects about them, we should embrace the good and make it our own and reject the bad.
