According to the UK Green Party website the Green Party will try to achieve the following if they gain power at the 2010 general election: DU405 Cannabis would be removed from the 1971 Misuse of drugs act. The possession, trade and cultivation of cannabis would be immediately decriminalised, roughly following the Dutch model. The trade […]

I really cannot see the “problem” with legalising cannabis and I agree whole heartedly with the above posts. Look at this way Cannabis and the taking of it has now become an accepted part of culture in most cities (over the world) and I bet you everybody in this country can name somebody they know who smokes it. Obviously there is the tax and job issues as mentioned above, but above all; If legalised, cannabis and eventually other drugs will come under strict controls and not end up in the hands of young, vunerable, children. And even if they do at least there will be clear, precise instructions on how to take the said drug. Of course there is always going to be issues of abuse, but there is no way they can stop the influx of illegal narcotics into this country, without legalisation. Let’s, for a change, try educating people on making an informed decision, rather than making the decision for them!

I share the sensible views posted by the other users. However guys, don’t get your bloody hopes up, because this is the Green Party and most of the rest of their manifesto is toss.
Agreed. No matter how hard the authorities try they can’t keep it from the public IF they choose to get it. Where there is demand there is supply and someone is making money, mainly the criminals in this situation. Although only an estimated 30% is imported from abroad ( in a 2007 survey ). Most is produced within the UK, though the money no doubt exits the UK in the END.
I am from glasgow and from what I gather its foreign gangs of illegal immigrants who are dominating the sale of large quantities of extremely poor quality cannabis ( in some cases it has been coated in powdered glass or chemicals, extremely harmful for human consumption, in an attempt to make the crap they produce look acceptable ) which does end up in the hands of young and naive youths. IF it was legalised, controlled, taxed, this would be eradicated virtually overnight.
People not concerned about this matter would ignore this or even gloat in the demise of junkies from scumdee to scaberdeen. Public attitude is just as big a problem to the cause. The publics’ stereotype of a cannabis user has to change and fortunately this is changing, albeit slowly.
They are not fat, lazy, unemployed, unambitious or hairy ( despite what you may have assumed from various cannabis activists ). They are not ( except in extremely extremely rare and overrated examples ) hopeless paranoid addicts who cause harm to anyone but themselves. They are doctors, lawyers, mechanics, designers, musicians, barmaids, archeologists, not to mention the obvious artists, and I wish I could say astronauts but I don’t know any. They keep it to themselves and get on with their lives.
I also heard of fairly numerous amount of vandals, attackers, rapists, even man slaughterers. Criminals who take to the street each weekend, cause havoc with traffic cones, parked cars and take up hours of the emergency services time. You may see one feebly arguing with Nightclub security, Being dragged into the back of a police van with a bloody nose, perhaps vomiting on the train, running a red light, even swerving side to side on the motor way as you gingerly try to overtake while trying to avoid a serious accident. There’s no harm in having a few drinks, RIGHT?

I have to say I agree with everyone that feels these are good policies. In a perfect world the Green Party would be in Government but there are too many people in the UK who are so narrow minded about the whole “cannabis” culture. Nobody is going to physically make you smoke a joint and if you’re the sort of person who enjoys smoking a joint after a hard days work, like I do, then I think that should be their choice. Too much money is spent on the prevention of cannabis, where as if it was controlled and taxed then it would fit right into the economy. Plus lets not forget it would put an end to the bulk triad and yardie weed that goes about that it utter sh*te and make way for the proper stuff. I vote Green Party.

these are great ideas i think the way hard drugs are classafied should stay the same or dealers will be more confidnet and start selling hard drugs within months there will be a big problem with druggies but on the other hand cannabis should decriminalised just like holland, the amount of cannabis that is sold is daft the amount of money that could be made on the tax alone would be in the billions, cannabis is getting upto the prices of 1.3 g for £20 and the health of cannabis users would be at less risk because there is mostly inported cannabis on the streets and is sprayed in horrible things like glass, wallpaper paste, sand and sand legalize cannabis make more money for britans economy the amount of money that is been missed out on by the goverment is untrue

the green partys other policies area bit crud but what with cannabis been legalised it could be used on a larger scale to combat climate change.
1 acre of hemp produces as much paper as 4 acres of trees, can be used to make bio fuels, organic plastics which are bio-degradeable unlike our more prominent oil based plastics, as well as the stems which are able to be made into fabrics for clothes as well as ropes.
also at the end of the day if it was legalised and the goverment experimented on it more they would be able to make it that strong that the main of the population of britain wouldnt be able to get their asses out of their chairs after their first joint when they got back from work.which happens in quite a few households in britain i imagine.

There is big money to be made from this. In addition I believe the crime rates would drop dramatically, as cannabis doesn’t make you violent or make you do regretful actions like alcohol or other drugs would.
And a reply to Dan, 1.3g for £20 ? You’re getting ripped.
LEGALIZE!
