Comment on Green Party Policies : Cannabis by boab.

Agreed. No matter how hard the authorities try they can’t keep it from the public IF they choose to get it. Where there is demand there is supply and someone is making money, mainly the criminals in this situation. Although only an estimated 30% is imported from abroad ( in a 2007 survey ). Most is produced within the UK, though the money no doubt exits the UK in the END.

I am from glasgow and from what I gather its foreign gangs of illegal immigrants who are dominating the sale of large quantities of extremely poor quality cannabis ( in some cases it has been coated in powdered glass or chemicals, extremely harmful for human consumption, in an attempt to make the crap they produce look acceptable ) which does end up in the hands of young and naive youths. IF it was legalised, controlled, taxed, this would be eradicated virtually overnight.

People not concerned about this matter would ignore this or even gloat in the demise of junkies from scumdee to scaberdeen. Public attitude is just as big a problem to the cause. The publics’ stereotype of a cannabis user has to change and fortunately this is changing, albeit slowly.

They are not fat, lazy, unemployed, unambitious or hairy ( despite what you may have assumed from various cannabis activists ). They are not ( except in extremely extremely rare and overrated examples ) hopeless paranoid addicts who cause harm to anyone but themselves. They are doctors, lawyers, mechanics, designers, musicians, barmaids, archeologists, not to mention the obvious artists, and I wish I could say astronauts but I don’t know any. They keep it to themselves and get on with their lives.

I also heard of fairly numerous amount of vandals, attackers, rapists, even man slaughterers. Criminals who take to the street each weekend, cause havoc with traffic cones, parked cars and take up hours of the emergency services time. You may see one feebly arguing with Nightclub security, Being dragged into the back of a police van with a bloody nose, perhaps vomiting on the train, running a red light, even swerving side to side on the motor way as you gingerly try to overtake while trying to avoid a serious accident. There’s no harm in having a few drinks, RIGHT?
