If you were born in the 60’s or 70’s then this article will probably bring you back with just two words: Maggie Thatcher, I wasn’t around when the Iron Lady was in power but we can still see the scars, people when referring to a dark decade they talk about Margaret Thatcher. A famous saying […]

I thought I was anti-Tory, apparently I’ve awoken a political activist in my youngest son by giving him this section of the site :-)
Caleb’s Dad
Hey Dad,
I knew you’d lurk from the shadows sometime, I knew you couldn’t help yourself but comment.
Glad You did :D
BTW: I’m acting like a political activist’s because
I DON’T WANT THE TORIES IN POWER
Remember folks DO NOT VOTE CONSERVATIVES ON MAY 6TH
Caleb
Hey, I really support wjat you are saying. Next year I will be able to vote and I totally disagree to vote conservative. I dont like their policies and i disagree what they are trying to do to the country.
You have made a good decision to not vote for the Tories in the election. (when you are old enough or if you are old enough to vote)
I am also reluctant to vote for Labour as they have also let me down since Gordan Brown has been Prime Minister.

You are an idiot.
Margaret Thatcher made the country richer, made the poorer richer and made the richer richer. Albeit, the gap between rich and poor grew, but everyone was richer as a result of the Conservatives.
Before Margaret Thatcher came in, there was rubbish piled up in the streets, unions taking over the country by picketing together with different companies to get more money. Maggie stopped this and took control from the unions back to the government.
Maggie did exactly what is necessary now, she made the state smaller and gave more control to councils and to the people. Socialism, the Labour party line, takes control away from the people as they attempt to control everything, in doing so they achieve very little.
It was this that Maggie abolished; she realised that by trying to do everything, you can do nothing. Maggie focused on the important issues and got this country back on the top where it belonged.
You, Caleb, have been subject to an unfortunate 13 years of propaganda from your father. There were only two truly great, huge political powers in the 20th century. Those were Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher. Tell me why, if the Conservatives were so bad in the 1980s, that the electorate voted for Margaret Thatcher three times and in the end she suffered attacks from jealous ministers in her own party who wanted to become Prime Minister. Margaret didn’t even get voted out, she resigned because of this.
Tell me, if Margaret Thatcher was so bad, why was it that the only way for Labour to gain power in 1997, was for Tony Blair to admit that the Conservatives had done a heck of a lot right in the 1980s and Labour had to accept that.
I find it very sad that you have been subject to not only your father’s propaganda, but the BBC propaganda as well that will have you believe that the whole country despised Margaret Thatcher. BBC is a thoroughly left wing corporation which did not get on with Margaret Thatcher. This is why today you hear nothing but crap from the BBC regarding her reign as the Prime Minister. From 1979 to 1990, this country never had it so good. Margaret Thatcher modernised this country and finally allowed it to turn its back on the war and its debt to society.
Until you face these facts, you’re just another biased, left wing child who will suffer the unfortunate fate of being cast as “voting for his father”. Get your own mind and read up on some facts before you insult the most popular peace time Prime Minister this country had in the 20th century.
Either that or get a job at the BBC.

LOL!
Oh silly Ben who starts a comment/email with You are an idiot, at least have some sense, people will perceive you as a ridiculous mindless fool.
But now on the point, sure Margaret Thatcher made the country richer for the insanely wealthy toffs, people on low incomes were on the street the country was in uproar people were angry at the current conservative government.
And that’s very bad.
You say one of the good things that Margaret Thatcher did was widen the gap between the rich and poor, you are aware that widening the gap isn’t that great, it means the richer get richer the poorer get poorer.
And That’s bad too.
I’ll skip down past the usual Tory MP/voter waffle and jump into the point you made about Winston Churchill and the Iron Lady being the only good prime ministers of the 20th century, well Churchill had a coalition government with the Liberal Party and Churchill was voted out of government after the war and Margaret Thatcher, people only voted for her three times was because they were extremely selfish and stupid, and no she didn’t resign because of the because of attacks by jealous ministers, it was because of the horrible Poll Tax.
You say I have suffered from fatherly propaganda and regular biased opinions, but these are my own views I have my own beliefs IF I wanted to support UKIP (Which I don’t) I would my dad has a small amount of effect on my political views, also we watch a mixture of media programs from BBC, Sky News, Al Jazeera and some internet blog/newspapers.
BTW I’m too young to work for the BBC silly at least think about the random things you spout out :)
To end my comment I will tell you a little fact from yours truly, Thatcher wasn’t the most popular Prime Minister unless people wouldn’t refer to her with “be afraid, be very afraid.”

Lets for arguments sake imagine everything you say about Thatcher and the Conservatives is right. Do you honestly expect calling a 13 year old with a strong opinion an idiot is going to sway them to your point of view? Awesome job of showing a young mind where you think they got it wrong.
You seem to have the impression Caleb’s merely a product of the socialist spin I’ve in your opinion subjected him to over the last 13 years.
If you’ve read my site (the main part of https://general-election-2010.co.uk/ ) for any length of time you’ll realise I’m not a socialist, far from it. I’m left of center on most things, but not on all and not that far left on most issues (I’m right of centre on some issues).
Caleb’s got views that are more left-wing than I or my wife has and he’s got those views by a combination of discussing politics with his parents AND his own research online. You seriously believe he’d be able to write comments (with specific dates etc…) like his response to you if all he was doing was parroting what I told him?
I think what the Conservatives did to Britain under the name of Thatcherism is unforgivable, but by the same token I wouldn’t want a group of MPs who refer to their party members as comrades and can’t take a leak without the unions having a say in power either! So though I think what the Tories did in the 80-90s to hard working British people was awful, I also wouldn’t have wanted a continuation of old Labour either: I suspect old Labour would have been a worse choice back then as they had too much union influence, (we wouldn’t have today’s reformed Labour party without the Tories taking power for almost two decades) but that doesn’t mean the Tories did a good job (TWO recessions!!!!!).
Currently I prefer today’s Labour to today’s Conservative party (they haven’t changed enough from the old Thatcher Tories). Although I make more money than your average working class person I still consider myself working class and know workers rights are not safe in the hands of the Tories. Even though damaging workers rights won’t have an impact on me (I’m self employed) I don’t want to see junior doctors again working 72+ hour shifts again!
Labour brought in the national minimum wage and are talking about a living wage.
David Cameron’s Tories hate the national minimum wage and would allow the Minimum Wage to “melt away”.
“The Minimum Wage won’t be scrapped but it will be allowed to wither on the vine. A series of smaller, more affordable increases will mean it will just melt away.”
The national minimum wage isn’t exactly a high wage, yet the Tories want to reduce it in real terms and make it meaningless!
Under David Cameron’s Tories we’ll never have every working class person on a living wage, it’s not even a Conservative aspiration!
David (Caleb’s Dad)

I totally agree with u. Im 16 and my family (of 3) is finding it hard to cope and I am trying hard to find a part time job because my paper round isnt helping us as much as it used too and its all to do with the state of the country and what happen after Maggie Thather was in power.
Libby
So presumably youre paper round used to help more, unless you started your paper round at age three then you have only done it under a labour government, how can you therefore say that it is Magret Thatchers fault that it helps less
under the labour government there are now more peole living under the povety line than at any other time in our history, oh and lets get rid of the 10p tax rate while were at it that will help people on minimum wage.
maybe it is about time that people realised that you vote for ONLY your local mp and therefore should chose the best in your area, then have a national government from all the main parties using the best talents from everyone, this would also stop the 10-15 year swings from left to right to left
no one party is perfect, but whoever gets in now is going to be wildly unpopular due to the massive cuts they HAVE to make to bring this coutrys outgoings more in line with our incomings so whatevber party does that will have my respect for doing what is right not what is popular

And I think that you are being really harsh on him. I think that people are allowed to chose who they would like to support when they are older. I dont like the Tories and i wont be supporting them.
LET PEOPLE HAVE THEIR OWN IDEAS AND GET OVER YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any government with a clear majority will undo the good done by the outgoing government. A coalition would put a brake on reversing the outgoing governments actions.
By voting for a party not supporting FPTP we will get a government the majority want ie Tory and Lib or Labour and Lib Together they would have almost 60% support

I dont undertand what u mean???
Get real
A conservative government will do to Great Britain
what a Labour or LibDem government would do to Great
Britain:
Mess us up even more.
I agree that Margret Thatcher ruined our country, it left the country in up roar! People couldn’t afford to pay there morage and therefor left them homeless. She rose our taxes and made everyone misarble, maybe that’s why for so long we have not voted tory.
Not only that but she made the trade union powerless.
So when you can vote or next time you vote, vote Labour! Do you really want that again?

English people,
Socialism doesn’t work. Did you forget countries where such policies ended up as disaster?? Your labor doesn’t understand economics and math’s? O My God, I was working as a social worker here. Nobody counts money, no proper means tested for benefits and services. Buy-to -let properties legislation has a gap and English people don’t hesitate to take advantage of it. Where are individuals’ responsibility??
Girls decide to have babies at 13? Everywhere young single mothers without fathers. Who supposes to support them? Who supposes to generate money? Labor doesn’t encourage people to do well and be responsible for individuals’ behaviour… It become too easy to stay on benefits or make sex without protection and be lazy watching TV all days.
I was shocked how bad education in schools in the UK. Why people on benefits more likely abuse their children. Sorry, this is the fact. Every time they called for a social worker to help children to behave better, but problems were that they needed food, to be loved and washed. This needs to stop.
If you don’t work, you will have no bread, apart from serious health problems.
