The nation is effectively bankrupt however. If it was a business right now it would be put into receivership by the courts. The government is having to borrow money to pay its bills and service its debts and has few assets left that can be sold as the Conservative and Labour governments of the last thirty years have offloaded everything of value to their mates the international finance community at knockdown prices.
