He most certainly would be liable to pay the full rent, however he would also be entitled to tax credit based on a. his salary and b. number of kids etc, so I would guess the family would get Tax Credits as well due to having so many kids.
They would then be entitled to claim Housing Benefit (at reduced rates) depending on the level of Tax credit awarded.
But in this families case persoanlay as they are immigrants and NOT contributing to the UK Economy and clearly taking from it in more than one claim I would personally be doing everything possible to get back as much of the money as possible, the revoke the British Passports (if they have them) then deport them.
What they have done is illegal and they should be punished to the maximum of the law, I don’t agree that she should escape prison just because of the kids, I would personally be taking a VERY hard line against them, no nice rubbish they ripped off the state they derserv to pay the penalty for that.
