Comment on Are the BNP Racists? by David.

With regards immigration I have similar concerns to you.

We have a very protective welfare system in this country, the NHS etc… that’s quite hard to fall through the gaps in comparison to places like the USA (I’d hate to be poor in the US!!!!) and many other countries.

This makes Britain a very appealing place to live for those who want to get on in life and I can understand why immigrants want to come here (streets paved with gold mentality, not true, but still).

Immigration is a double edged sword, on one hand we can acquire some of the best minds, skilled workers from around the world (good for the economy) that want to settle here (I think the UK is a great place to live).

On the other hand it also attracts unskilled workers who “take jobs” from our unskilled work force and as they aren’t highly skilled are unlikely to be highly paid and so are a drain on our limited resources.

I want more highly skilled, highly educated, hard working immigrants to emigrate to Britain, but I don’t want unskilled, poorly educated (hard working** or not) immigrants to emigrate here.

** I don’t have an issue with hard working unskilled workers, some people just aren’t cut out for skilled work and there are plenty of jobs that are unskilled, but we have more than our fair share of unskilled British born people as it is, so don’t need more! To some degree I’d swap some of our unskilled work force who in a country where it is possible to get a good education and training for free do nothing to improve their lot in life! For unskilled foreign workers who get off their arse and travel to another country to find work (at least they want to work and do better in life). Realistically we aren’t going to have a 1 for 1 sort of swap scheme :-) so we are left with not needing more unskilled workers and need to motivate ours.

Unfortunately our welfare system is setup in such a way that some (not all) of our unskilled British born work force are unwilling to take on low paid jobs. For example the Labour government made it difficult for the unemployed to take on low paid short term work, (seasonal farm work for example) this means employees who need flexible workers hire out of the country! There needs to be changes so an unemployed person can easily take on 6 weeks of work without it hurting their welfare benefits long term. An incentive along the lines of if a person doesn’t find some work in 18 months without a good reason their benefits are reduced. This would encourage the unemployed to take on short term work so they don’t loose benefits long term and reduce our need for unskilled foreign workers.

Some employees also have the perception (right or wrong) British born workers are unwilling/incapable of working hard at low paid jobs.

To some degree I think they are right, there is a culture in some of our young where they won’t do a particular job because they are better than that (even my eldest son had that attitude for a while, when he was 16-17 years old, now 18 at Uni working in a bar)!

We seem to be loosing the men work because that’s what men do and if you aren’t working you aren’t a man mindset. I don’t fully agree with that mindset, but at least it results in people wanting to work no matter what the job is.

I don’t think we can change the attitude of people with that mindset, we have to work on the next generation. However, government can make it hard on those who refuse to work when work is available and right now I don’t think they are doing enough.

BTW the BNP plan to force everyone to do national service, this isn’t all pick up a gun national service, but also work on farms for free national service! This would take work away from the employed and result in more unemployed people.

What Nick Griffin and the BNP are trying to do is mimic what Nick Griffin thinks Hitler did in the mid 1930s during the great depression (they all read Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler).

Nick Griffin will believe Hitler got the unemployed Germans to build the autobahn (German motorway system) before it was actually needed. Although Hitler took the credit for the autobahn (not his idea) and said it got the German people back to work, truth is it was slave labor (POWs etc…) that built the majority of the autobahn, the impact on German unemployment was minimal. Was good PR for the Nazi government propaganda machine though.
