The point of his words is simple. Six million died without any doubt, he has said this many times before, but his only statement is that the images we get in our heads when we think of the Jews and Hitler may be exaggerated. E.g. Most of us instantly think of Jews being crammed in a room and gassed to death and then dragged out and have their body parts used for other purposes.
It is note worthy to remember that the majority of death camps were found and illustrated and described when the allies were pressing on into Germany and not so much before.
